sanding a tip

If you had gotten a tip top that happened to be just a hair smaller than you needed it to be, would tou be safe to sand the tip of the blank very lightly to accommodate the small tip rop or would it be easier to order a larger size and keep the smaller one as a spare or replacement rip.

No, you can't afford to remove any material from what is already the smallest and thinnest portion of the rod blank. As Bill stated, you can scrape off any paint of finish without harming the blank and this might be enough to fit the top.

Otherwise order the larger size and if needed, build up with thread. Keep the current one for a future project. You can never have enough tiptops.

John,

Take a drill but the same size as the tip top and ream out the tip tip a tad BY HAND, this usually makes the tip top a little larger (stretches and removes paint inside) in size and will then fit the rod.

Duane

makes a good point I do it and it also helps to give a better BITE for the glue
After scraping and with the drill bit it may just fit nice

But ??? Do like Tom suggested
