I am looking for a blank for panfish. In the past I used a Forecast blank that was 6 1/2 feet long. It was awesome!!! I really liked the fast action with the ultralight power. I have also used some of the blanks from Cabelas, with similar results. I am now getting people asking me about them, and all of the blanks that I find in the light power are not fast action. I have looked at the popping blanks online, but, being from northern Wisconsin, I have never put my hands on one. What I am looking for that would be ideal is a 6 1/2 to 7 foot blank with a fast action rated for 2-6 pound test and able to cast 1/16 ounce jigs a long way. I know this sounds like a lot, but the old Forecast blanks that I used to use fit the bill, and were under 30 bucks. Re: Looking for a panfish blank

Mike -
Drop me an email at alex@hydrafishing.com. I have something that will fit the bill. It's not one of our "core" stock of items, but do have them available. I can give you more details direct. Thanks. Personally, I don't think you will like a popping blank. To me they are slower and softer tipped. I think you will like a traditional spin/jig best but I may be reading your needs wrong.
My life has changed a lot recently and I have gone from blue water fishing to fishing at a local lake. We have a lot of "exoctic" panfish here. Some of them are very strong fighters. I have been having a lot of fun with mudhole's sj9000 which is a 7'6" zero power hotshot blank. It has more power than you need but fishes 4-6# mono nicely and will cast the weights you want. It has a very light tip with a magnum butt. It would probably be nice for walleye and will certainly handle the occasion largemouth/smallmouth that one hoks when panfishing. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Take a look at the blanks from Net Craft, they sell one of their Sportsman blanks that is 6 1/2 ft long and is rated 1/8-1/4 oz range that will fit your bill. I have built several rods using this blank, it's a good one. Re: Looking for a panfish blank

The reason i use the poppin blanks is that most are used crappie fishing. The slower action helps in not pulling hooks from the soft mouthed fish Re: Looking for a panfish blank

I just built my 5 year old niece an MHX S781 (6'-6" 2-6#) that she uses to catch bait when she goes fishing with me. She likes it but she's 5. I've used it a little and actually like it pretty well.

St Croix and NFC have a complete lineup that would meet your criteria. Re: Looking for a panfish blank

MHX blanks-----S781-MHX, S781-2-MHX or S782-MHXS782-2-MHX or S842-MHX,S842-2-MHX. I have built 5 or 6 rods on MHX blanks and in my opinion you get a whole lot of bang for the buck with these blanks. I just built a S842-2 for a good fishing buddie of mine and I think this would make a real nice panfish rod, and would still have enough stuff to handle the accidental bass or larger fish!!

This one is a little more money MHX DS820 it's 6'10", but it fits into what you're looking for. I have one that I built for myself and use it for Crappie, Bass and Walleye. It has a fast tip and plenty of power in the back bone. [www.mudhole.com] Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
