There are some "official" specifications adopted by fly tackle manufacturers. (one easily accessible source is on the Rec Is there any thing similar for spinning reels? And, in general how do typical freshwater spinning reel feet compare to the official fly reel foot?

Yes there is a fly reel foot standard, but almost nobody adheres to it. Always check the fit of the fly reel you intend to use with the seat you intend to use. You'd not be the first to find out after the fact that your intended fly reel will not fit the seat you used.

Spinning and Casting reel feet have been fairly similar (although not exact) for decades. They don't vary to the extent that fly reel feet do. If you have a spinning reel in hand, the foot on that reel is going to be very close to any other spinning reel. There are opposite extremes, of course, although even then the difference is not usually that great.

Just a heads-up if you own or intend to use a Daiwa SS700 reel. This old model reel that is still in current production has an extra SHORT foot. Some of the Fuji VSS and IPS seat don't screw down enough to hold it securely. Cheers!

I just found that my reel won't fit into a Fuji DPS seat.
It wasn't my first choice for a seat anyway but I got it in case I couldn't find a Fuji Cobra seat.
Fortunately I was able to locate the Cobra. . . thanks to the Buy/Sell page of the Forum.

You can always customize the feet on any reel
