I'm doing a swimbait rod with 4.5 running guides. The blanks tip a 7.5 and the smallest top I can find to fit has a size 8 ring. Is using that contrary to the mico runners? I found a 5/7 that could be split to fit or a 4.5/6.6 that could be split. I appreciate any opinions.

Hi Mike,
4.5 to 8 is a fairly big jump. It will work ok but might not look the best. A 4.5 single foot bound to the tip might be the way to go.

You know, I thought of that too. I've done the "Broken Tip" set up on float rods before, but I've never tried it on a heavier rod.

Kigan has a micro tip with up to a 7 tube, maybe you can scrape the paint off and use it, worked on my A-rig rods.

Mike,
Put on the 8 and enjoy the rod.
You won't have terminal trouble with the tip this size.

Take care
Roger
