A few weeks ago I posted a topic regarding the fading of Speed thread and in particular the light Blues.
so I wrapped up some bits and pieces about 3 feet long and single coated with either threadmaster and procote even added some CP to some areas as suggested by the Speed sales manager, wrapped masking tape very thickly to areas to keep out the UV and sat them on the house roof for the past 3 weeks or more. They have been there ever since...today i got them down unwrapped the masking tape cleaned them up and to my total amazement, no obvious colour difference and considering the samples have had about 250hrs of UV rays I feel as though I must now retract some of my commments regarding Speed thread in my previous posts ... Hi Owen and thanks for posting the results of your tests.
I emailed Frogleys and their Sales Manager Jay was kind enough to send me this reply... Speed is a filled thread and does not require filler/sealer. Some rod builders do use a filler with it though. But from Speed’s point of view, no it does not require a sealer. Re: Speed thread fading results

Hi Paul,
thats right, Speed does not need CP. I only used CP on the samples to see if it did make any difference... and yes it did, with added CP it is nearly a perfect match to the spool after epoxied. without added CP its close to the spool colour after epoxied......either way you look at it. neither of them faded... ps: I'll still be sticking with Fish hawk Re: Speed thread fading results

That's good news Owen.
I stand by my original comments, had the thread fade on my boy's rod within a couple of weeks. I still use the rod and what started as blue now looks off-white. Perhaps it was a bad batch. Regards Dave Boyle Re: Speed thread fading results

Nice neat experiment Owen. Maybe worth a test on a few other thread types.
Unfortunately for me, it wasn't so much the fading that was the issue with Speed thread for me. Too much twisting, knotting, fraying, and getting caught on that silly little cut on the spool that is supposed to be a tag holder. Too many problems for my liking. Re: Speed thread fading results

I put the cut on the spool always on the bottom so that doesn't happen. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
