I have been asked to build (2) lite spinning surf rods for a friend. Don't get to many request in Tennessee for surf rods. Is there a rule of thumb for stripper guide? The blank is a Batson SUR1083F - 9 ft., 2 piece. The reel is a Penn 450ssg, (I think). Bill at Midwest and Batson put the components/blank together for me. Re: surf rod guide spacing

With a reel that size you will have no problem using a size 25 stripper guide . I'll assume braid will be used!! I build all my surf rods NGC and start with the smallest guide and try to get the line down quick. Might look like this: #25,16,10, 8,8,8,8 tip. Give or take a guide depending on stadic test!! The sixth item listed in the library will explain bow to use the NGC method and place the guide on the rod. For a nine foot rod I would think at least nine or ten guides would be used.

Contact Bill or Kerry Batson and they will tell you the spacing. You can email them from their site. Kevin Knox ANGLER'S ENVY CUSTOM RODS QUEEN ANNE, MD 21657 #_#_#_#_# www.anglersenvy.com Re: surf rod guide spacing

Mark,
Just set the rod up as you would set up any other rod. Use the appropriate size and type guides needed to handle the load on the rod. Space the guides as needed to properly load the blank. Good wrapping. Roger Re: surf rod guide spacing
