Ok..... I did a top coat lastnight on my wraps and noticed there were a couple of blemishes this morning (thread fiber). I sanded with 400 grit just slightly as to get a smooth surface. Will the final coat render the sanded area clean and clear? Or will you be able to see where it was sanded. Im worried that it will be visible once I apply the final coat. As long as you didn't sand through to the thread it will be invisible. Re: Sanding before final top coat.

With something as fine as 400 grit, you should be okay.
A simpler and cleaner way to remove thread nubs in your finish, is to take a clean single edge razor blade and just neatly slice off the nub. Then recoat. ................. Re: Sanding before final top coat.

Provided you didn't get into the thread, a second coat will shine it up & look like it never happened. Re: Sanding before final top coat.

Brian -
I've tried a couple methods, and I like Tom's advice the best, if you do not have many fuzzies, you can use a razor and clean it up pretty fast. Just be sure to clean the area good before applying the second coat. I've been building a little over a year and found this article very helpful, it shows you how much work you can actually do on the wraps and not mess them up. The main thing is not to get into the wrap itself. [www.rodbuildingforum.com] There's more than one page, so be sure to look at it all. Hope this helps. Jeremy W. Reed Edited 1 time(s).
