Curious?? What effect will tru oil have on cork grips? Will it dry to a sheen, like it does on wood? Will it damage the cork? Cork is technicallw a wood, right Re: TRU OIL on cork grips?

It works great on wood. Especially Burl where it really enhances the grain. It's kind of a matte finish and also seals/ protects the cork. Do a SEARCH for Tru Oil ad select ALL DATES and you will get a lot of opinions/info Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! I use it on cork fly rod grips all the time. One good coat seals and stays none glossy, add more coats and you can achieve a gloss. Does not damage. Cork is a tree bark. Re: TRU OIL on cork grips?

It works well on cork and will not damage it. Best bet is to use it on a sample to see if you like the way it looks. I for one don't care for it. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Re: TRU OIL on cork grips?

I only use Tru Oil on gribs that are a mixture of cork and burl. The Tru Oil really brings out the contrast in the materials, but it also excentuates the flaws in the cork. It has a slightly harder feel than untreated cork but is not slick. I never use it on solid cork grips howerver. Re: TRU OIL on cork grips?

I also use it on mixed cork. I have applied several coats and created a gloss finish and have also applied one or two coats just to seal it. It makes for a nice grip but it does take a while for each coat to dry. I love it though. David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: TRU OIL on cork grips?

I don't know about regular cork as I haven't bought or used any in about 10 years. Burls, wood or acrylics and combinations only Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: TRU OIL on cork grips?

Cork doesn't need sealing. It has a closed cell structure and doesn't take stain. If it gets dirty it can be cleaned with a mild detergent.
Using tru-oil or other cork sealer will enhance the colors of burl corks but I find it changes the feel of the cork - making it feel more plasticky. I prefer natural. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
