I'm thinking I want to add building furled leaders in addition to my rod building hobby. Is there an expert here with a spreadsheet for various formulas and lengths specically for salmon and steelhead? Thanks. Re: Is there a furled leader expert here?

Thanks Ron but I was looking to build my own, not buy them. Just need a little info on thread sizes and lengths specific to throwing streamers and leech patterns for salmon with a 10wt. Re: Is there a furled leader expert here?

it might not be the correct way but a 3, 2, 1 plus your tip will work out very nice, it has for me 3 = heavy , 2 = med., 1 = lightest , than a tippit, it is great for what you want, you can make all parts of the leader,
so you take them apart an replace them om the river you just replace what broke off think about it Re: Is there a furled leader expert here?

I just received a DVD on how to make furled leaders but the dimensions of the layout board will provide a 60" - 66" leader. I'm still looking specifically for various formulas and lengths for salmon strength furled leaders. I thought I made that clear in the beginning - my bad if I didn't. I build furled leaders for different apps. For steelhead and salmon just substitute Kevlar thread or light braid(8lb) for trout specs. They will still give you some stretch with great hook set and no worries about getting broken of frayed. Re: Is there a furled leader expert here?

Hi Tim.
I have dabbled a bit in the past, and have continued with twisted leader butts. There was quite a bit of information floating around at one time including a forum specifically on the subject of furled leaders, the url was [furledleaders.proboards.com] it may be of some help for you. Personaly I use the golden ratio of 1.6:1 by length and strength for a guide line on my twisted leaders-they are heavy and I use them for heavy saltwater fly. Not everyones cup of tea, but I personaly think they have a place at times. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
