Looking for thread that matches Auburn Tiger Orange and especially the Blue, going on a matte black blank. Anybody ever done this? I think a regular Gudebrod orange with CP will match the orange but I'm not sure about that color blue. Seems a lot darker than Gudebrod or Fishawk blues. Re: Auburn Tigers Orange and Blue

Rich,
Where did you find a metallic orange? Re: Auburn Tigers Orange and Blue

Pac Bay is the only brand I could find in just an orange. I bought it from Mudhole. Re: Auburn Tigers Orange and Blue

Did you need to under-coat it with white paint or tape to make it pop, or was the metallic able to stand out on it's own? Re: Auburn Tigers Orange and Blue

You can find Pantone numbers for almost any school with a little research, I usually start with Wikipedia. The numbers for Auburn are PMS 172 Orange, and PMS 289 Navy. The yellow eyes on the Tiger are PMS 108. The best thread matches I found are Madeira 1742 Navy and either Metro 2484 Pumpkin or Robison Anton 9072 Grilled Orange. Any strong yellow will do for trim. The problem with all this is CP. You will usually get a little darkening with CP, so these colors will not match perfectly when finished. However, they are usually close enough that nobody can tell the difference. To get exact matches, you'd have to experiment with slightly lighter colors and eyeball results until satisfied.
