I am new to rod building. I have completed 3 so far. I just broke a rod I really like, a Penn International IM7 II1020C70 7' 0'' 10-20 lb 1/2 - 1 1/2 oz. I would like to try to build a rod that matches it as closely as possible in weight and action.
My question is can I find a reference somewhere that will tell me what blank was used to build this rod or what blank is closest to it? I seem to remember seeing a link somewhere that would help but I can't remember where I saw it. thanks. Gene Re: Match a blank to a Penn International

I doubt the blank used for that rod is available commercially. You'll have to use the specs as listed on the rod (or the Penn catalog) to match something up as close as possible.

If you look around you can still buy that rod. Probably your best bet, if you really loved it, as they aren't much money.
If I was going to buy a blank I'd move up the ladder a bit more. IIRC that Penn was like a 100-120 bucks. If you are willing to go like $150-200 range in parts you could get something a lot nicer IMHO. I'd look at names like Lamiglas, seeker, calstar, and st. croix. Russ in Hollywood, FL.
