blank supplier said I could put the rod info decal they supply directly on the rod blank and finish over it which I did and it worked fine. However I can see the edges of the decal, which I dont like. Any way to make it "disappear" next time? Re: decal

Did you put a layer of finish UNDER the label as well? If not, that will usually be the reason for an outline. Re: decal

seems like too much hassle to redo it. The rod is for me ( second build) so its not that big of a deal. Now I know Re: decal

You could always over wrap it with thread (or a tiger wrap) and epoxy that, then add a new decal. _________________________________________ "Angling is extremely time consuming. That's sort of the whole point." - Thomas McGuane Re: decal

I've only put a few of those decals on but I've always put them directly on the blank and burnished the edges hard and that hides them pretty well. Hardest thing for me was not to leave a finger print or ridges from tweezers. Re: decal

Jim Mowl -- If you place a piece of clear tape over the decal and allow the length of the tape to extend beyond each side of the decal by a inch, you will have a system that allows you to handle the decal without fingerprints. Hold the ends of the clear tape with your left and right hand, place the decal on the rod, rub it down well and remove the clear tape. Bob McKamey Mud Hole Custom Tackle bobm@mudhole.com Re: decal

When ever I apply any label, even waterslides, I always trim the label edges while holding the cutting blade at a 45 degree angle. The resulting tapered edges lay down on the rod blank without any ridge. Thanks, Chad Huderle Huderle Custom Rods Prior Lake, MN Re: decal

Thanks for the tip Bob,
Cant believe I didn't think of it. We do it the same way to save an reuse nameplate lettering on vehicles. Sometimes my stupidity amazes me.. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
