Thin wire snake guides

Hi all,

I am looking to build a 6wt Sage Z-Axis in the near future, to be used for trout fishing in freshwater. I am a little unsure as to which guides to use.

The Sage factory rods use H&H 'thin wire' snake guides for the first six guides on this blank.

I am unsure whether to use 'normal' or 'thin wire' snake guides - is there any difference in real terms between the weight of these, so as to affect the feel of the rod?

Are the Batson and PacBay chrome snake guides comparable in quality to those from H&H?

I am interested to hear from anyone who has built a 6wt Z-Axis.

Thanks

Dale

Dale,
You might also look at Snake Brand guides. They have wire that varies based on guide size. They also have a new guide called a "Universal" snake guide that has the bottom concave to sit on the blank better. The guide feet are pre shaped and do not need any attention. Just wrap and you are done.

Having used both,I feel the Batson guides are superior to the H&H, especially in the finishing of the feet. As for the weight difference, you wouldn't notice it on a 6 wt. The best way to save weight, would be to use single foot guides!

Dale,
The difference will be noticable.
If you prefer snakes use the light wire, as the factory recommends.
If you want more performance and lighter swing weight go for the light wire single foot.
If you wish to push further light wire titanium single foot.
