So I was browsing a fishing site and ran across someone who sells a rod which they call the "war Rod" They have a video where they demonstrate and the part which caught my interest was when he broke the handle portion down into 2 pieces. It was like the there was a threaded collar that allowed you to remove the lower handle and reel seat portion from the rest of the rod.
Im not sure if I can utilize this or not but im intrigued non the less. Who makes these reel seats and what different models are there? Re: Unibut reel seat

AFTCO, PacBay, Stuart. I think AFTCO is the most prevalent / best known. Re: Unibut reel seat

Well... couple of things. First the reel seat is part of the lower assembly - no chance of it ever breaking loose. Second one rod can be mated to either a straight or a bent butt - effectively a stand-up and a chair rod by changing out the butt section. I've built a few like that for customers - but I really prefer to build full-up different rods. Re: Unibut reel seat

The other is storage. And of course some rod blanks are special built for a uni-butt....often IFGA "stubbies". Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: Unibut reel seat

Hummmm im trying to see if there is a way I can utilize one.... I guess it would be nice to be able to break the handle off of the rod blank while leaving the reel attached to the handle portion.. But if im gonna go that far I can just pull the reel off the seat... Re: Unibut reel seat

Casey, they are a lot of money. It isn't something I'd "try" to find a need for. Instead it is something to use when it is required. For me that would be something like 80 to 130# class trolling rods where the rod stayed in a rod holder at all times or the fish was fought only from a fighting chair.
You might take a look at a "slick butt". It works well for kingfish/wahoo rods in situations where you need to remove a rod under load from a rod holder. They are fairly durable and light plus they are reasonable in price. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: Unibut reel seat

Yeah I just don't think I can utilize one for what im looking to build.... Now if I build a larger rod for river fishing I may consider the slip butt style Re: Unibut reel seat

What type of rods would you have been considering these for? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
