candy apple effect guide wraps

I tried to get a candy apple effect guide wrap last night with silver metallic gudebrod A as the under wrap and pro wrap neon orange nylon size D as
the over wrap. I coated with epoxy but the top thread did not turn "transparent" thus I did not achieve my effect. I followed the advice from previous
posts utilizing the search function. Could the problem be that the Pro wrap doesn't turn "transparent" like the gudebrod nylons?

Thanks,

Dan Grulke

D doesn't turn that much because it's thicker than A. I do this on EVERY single rod I build, teh thickness of the thread does make a difference. I have not done it with Nylon Neon Pro Wrap, I only use NCP for hte Neons.

It could be that particular color is not transparent.

You could try some other basic red over a red metallic.

Another option - have you ever tried Gudebrod Garnet by itself? I have a rod here with Garnet Gudebrod silk which matches an aluminum red anodized reel exactly. Mudhole claims their Prowrap 316 Raspberry matches it.

Oh, reading comprehension, LOL... I did not realize it was D size, that might explain things.

I believe the neon Pro-Wrap is a color fast (NCP) thread, so you would not get the bleed through you desired with it. You need regular nylon thread and preferably in size A.

It is not the size, I use D size reg nylon over mettalics a lot and get the candy effect. It is the thread not the size that's the problem.

I was going for a candy apple orange effect. And it is the thread color not the size. The neon orange pro wrap, though it is nylon, will not turn transluscent. I did use
another shade/color in "D" and it worked.

Thanks,
