I have a Fenwick Fenglass SP1263F blank I want to use as a bobber/jig rod for salmon/steelhead.
From info Iv'e been able to find it is a spinning blank with lure rateing 1/4 to 5/8 , line rateing 8 to 15?
I'm thinking of using Fuji MNSG guides with a FST tip top size 8 and a 14" rear grip
I would like some insight for this old blank don't want to screw it up.

Spacing and guide size
4.33 - 8
9.25 - 8
15.20 - 8
22.25 - 8
30.50 - 10
39.60 - 12
49.80 - 16
61.25 - 20
74.23 - 30

Rich,
That will work. but if you are using line up to only 15 lb mono or braid, you could downsize the guides a bit.

Starting at the butt
25,16,10, and 8 to the tip if you want to worry about running big swivels etc. through the tip.

Or if you are going to keep the swivels out of the rod tip and rod, you could go down to
25,16,10, 8, and 6 to the tip.

If in doubt, take your first guide selection, tape the guides to the blank - do some test casts with the line and weight of your choice.

Then you could try one of the others suggested, or even something entirely different. Again, do some test casting with the line and lure of your choice and draw your own conclusion.
When you have the data you want, go ahead, wrap and finish the guides and go fishing.

Good luck
Roger

p.s.

If you decide that you want to run a 40 lb mono on the rod, then I would likely stay with something close to your first guide setup. But, I am doubtful that you would run line that heavy on that particular rod.

Roger,
Thanks for the input. I like the idea of down sizing, I do this with fly rods, the only problem is the tip is 3.2 mm and I couldn't find a 6 to fit.
I'm going to do a static test and see how it looks.
