Fly rod for bass

One manuf. has come out with a fly rod targeting bass. I have been using an 8 wt. 9' for severals yrs.for the same purpose.
I was interested because the rod in question is 7'11" throwing 230 to 350 gr. line. My question is could I build a similar rod
using a 8' medium action popping blank IP963F or XP963TC from Batson for this fly rod?

The lure rating (up to 5/8 oz, with a likely "sweet spot" somehwere around half an ounce) seems to indicate that it would work OK. However, even a moderately fast popping blank is going to be quite a bit faster than a very fast fly blank. You might find it harder to cast than a regular fly rod...or not.
The reason that rod is 7'11' is so that it's legal for use in bass tourneys. A 7 or 8 wieght, in a 9' or 8'6", if you can find it, would be easier and less tiring to cast, than the popping blank.

CTS has their new Prime Series blanks that would allow you to do exactly what you want. Basically a completely custom blank. Any line wt you want. Any length from 6' through 12' in 3" increments. Choice of 2,3,4,5,or 6 pcs. Various power and tip actions available. Give them a shout.

We've been building the HS9000 MHX, which is 7'-6" & the HS9600 MHX, which is 8' for the application you have mentioned. Those are 1 pc. blanks and if you want 2 pc., go with the HS9900-2 MHX. Gary Gillette here at Mud Hole has been using these blanks built as fly rods and catching largemouth bass, juvenille tarpon and redfish. I have cast them and they are rockets.

Lane,
how do you order one of the prime blanks? I built a 10' 3wt Affinity X and love it. I would like to try that.
