Do I need CP with metallic threasd (ProWrap Metallic)?

I plan to use metallic thread on my next rod. Is it necessary to use color preserver with it?

Thanks - I appreciate your help.

Bob,
You don't need CP on any thread that you wrap rods with.
The only reason to use CP is to have the thread be a different color than if it did not have the CP used on it.

Take care

I use cp to hold threads in place on decorative wraps, especially if I am going to walk away for a bit.

I use CP on everything I wrap...usually two coats minimum. Metallics included. It eliminates the problem of bubbles rising after applying epoxy. For me that's the best reason to use it.

Thanks,

I'm with Chad. I use it for the simple reason of eliinating bubbles when finishing. I will go 3-4 coats on size C or heavier thread and 2 coats on B and A.

IF you ever use Gudebrod Pearl Metaliic, it definitely requires preserver.

The posts are right about CP really helping to reduce or eliminate bubble problems in the finish.

However, I prefer the darker and more translucent look that I get from the thread when finishing without CP.

If a client wants it, I will CP. But otherwise, I deal with the bubbles and not use CP.

The use of "CP or no CP gives quite a different look to the thread wraps. So, it is up to you as the builder and to the client to either use CP or not.

Take care
Roger

Metallic thread does not need CP - But it can be used to fill and get rid of any air which will result in bubbles or thin finish will act the same for the first coat

Regular nylon without CP will become transparent and the guide feet will show though
CP will let it keep it's color

If using a combo of regular nylon and metallic trim without CP you can thin the finish to soak in and get rid of any air and bubbles - Check out Flex Coat - How they do it

Or CP the wrap to keep it's color

If you are trying to use 1 coat of finish, then I would say use CP for the bubbles. If you so 2 thin coats, you can easily take care of bubbles in the finish. My forst coat is just enough to fill in the tunnels and barely cover the threads. I rarely have bubble issues in metalics when I use a first thin coat.
