Thin and with a brush. Cut out 1/2 the bristle's from the brush if you need too.

For a thinner application, use a stiffer brush.

Lorenzo,
Also mix a small fresh batch of finish and apply as soon as mixed. The difference in thickness between a freshly mixed batch and a batch that has set for 3 or 4 minutes can often be 2:1.
Work on the smallest micros first with the fresh thin stiff brush and you will be in good shape.
The key thing is to apply the finish quickly and then quickly move to the next guide.
You should be only spending 5-10- seconds per guide.
So you should be able to do several guides per minute.

That keeps the fresh finish thin if it has not been sitting around.

Good luck
Roger
