Looking to build a 7' one piece rod for saltwater.........throw approx. 3/4 to 1 1/2 lures - poppers, swimmers, bucktails - spring time blues and small stripers in the bays of East End. Looking for quality blank without spending a fortune.........MHX, Rainshadow, etc.? Thanks.

If it was in my budget I'd like to try the new St. Croix inshore blanks made with the new resin.

MB845-MHX is a nice blank. Per specs it will do out to 1.25 oz but down below your 3/4 oz limit. You might also want to check out the American Tackle blanks AMSJ-845 (1/2 - 1 1/2) and AMCB-845 ( 1/2 - 2). I've built on all of these - they are all good blanks. I haven't build on the Rainshadow RX7 MagBass 845 (3/8 - 2oz) but I'm sure that is also a good blank because the Batson products that I have used (many) have all been excellent.

The MHX CB847 would be my choice.
I think it'd be a dang good one for what you're doing.

Check out MUD HOLE , they have three blanks in their CRB line, they are IM6 graphite and come in three weights light , medium , heavy . The ISO7 series on page 37 of their catalog , these are reasonably priced blanks , I built some in both spin and conventional, I love them, they work well . Larry

Russell,

Only St. Croix SCV blanks and their offshore saltwater series are build with the new 3M NSi resin, not the inshore or any other series of rods. [www.stcroixrods.com]

I have built several MHX CB847 and my customers have no regrets. They all love them. I am building 3 more in the next two weeks for one captain and his fishing charter boat. They really can't be beat. I love and made on for myself. I also have made some St croix but my customers ask for the MHX series. If that was any help to u.

I was already considering the MHz cb847, and glad to see the positive reports about it. Wanted to try the ngc concept, with double foot guides. Probably size 6 running guides. Suggestions for model, size guides? Thanks, Steven
