NGC w/ Wide Spool

I'm starting a build on a 6 1/2 spinning rod with a wide (57 mm) spool. Multiplying 57mm by 27 equates to 60 inches if I did my math right. This puts the first running guide about 4 inches from the tip. With three stripping guides, this comes out to just four guides plus tip. Does this sound right or does the NGC just not apply in some cases. Thanks for the input.

It applies. the distance from the choker to the tip makes no difference and has no bearing on the system. It is the distance between the reel spool and the choker guide that matters.

If the rod is very stout you may be fine as you are, although with that much distance between the reel and the choker you could try adding 1 more transition guide.

With only 64 inches beyond the reel, you must have one heck of a long rear handle on that rod, which leaves less rod length in need of guides.

I use NGC but still static test. That should tell the story whether the setup will do what you want or not. What are you building that will use such a lagre spooled reel?

It's a 6 1/2' Rainshadow Mag Bass in a heavy action, can't remember the cat. number. It will have a U.S. reel mounted on a Tennessee handle.. This is upon request of the customer. He said he knows it's a strange build but that's what he uses for a shakey head. He said he fishes in fairly deep water and prefers the heavy for this. You know the saying, "the customer's always right!" I'm meeting the guy tonight to look at a rod he currently uses and wants to model this rod by, at least as far as the handle assembly. I'm hoping the reel measurments he gave me are wrong and it won't have such a long handle

Just seems terribly long.
