M frames

Evening gents,

I have a request to build 2 spinning rods utilizing M frames for the first few... The first rod will be a XP8 ip840 for panfish person will be using 4lb fireline as well as 5lb power pro. They will be using a symetre 750 for the 5lb and a sahara 500 for the 4lb... I am thinking for this one maybe a 12 for the butt yet not sure what to use next.

The second rod is a MHXsj783 with a stradic 2500 and will throw 12lb flouro and possibly 20lb powerpro.

Neither rod will be used in conjunction with a leader so I am going to use the 2's I have for runners.

Thanks,
Tom

Even though these are tall M guides, and using light line, I personally wouldn't go any smaller than a size 16 and likely a size 20 for the first guide. I just don't like to see any heavy angle changes on a guide when I am reeling up line.
Good luck
Roger

the m guides are great...use them for the butt guide to get the height...then you may need to go to y guides for transition then single fly for choker and running guides...you could definately go with a size 16 in the butt guide and maybe 12 especially with braid....only you can tell that once you set it up...braid is very forgiving and changes the field when setting up

Several of us are using Y 16mm for bass rods and 10# Suffix. 4# Fireline might work fine with an M 12mm. That stuff is like thread so it should work fine - until the customer decides to throw on a spool of old 6# mono!

I use Y 16, 8, BLAG5 on my braid rods. You might have to just mock it up if you have the guides to see how it flows. I think I have some old M guides in the sizes you are thinking about, and I could take a look tonight if you'd like. Let me know.

Chuck

Chuck,
that would be FANTASTIC if you had the opportunity to do this. I too have gone the same route with BYAG's as well as the VS3's for braid rods (flouro is a different story). He specifically asked for these guides and I don't have any experience with them.

THANK YOU
Tom
