I would probably go with the 843, it is the closest match to your broken one, although if you want or are going to be using anything heavier in the future, then step up to the 844 Ron Weber Re: RX8 XMB 843 or 844

How do you feel the 843 will fair pitching into cover such as laydowns? Re: RX8 XMB 843 or 844

If you're in heavier cover, definitely go with the 844 Ron Weber Re: RX8 XMB 843 or 844

Thats what I am thinking also. I just can't make up my mind.
I had that broken rod for a lot of years and it was the rod I had in my hands 90% of the time pitching to cover. but the new crucial is not the same. So I figured I go with the batson blanks and make a new one to try to match it. Re: RX8 XMB 843 or 844

What size bait are you pitching? I see the rod you're trying to replace is 3/8-3/4oz. If you're pitching a 1/2 or 3/4oz jig or maybe a 3/4oz sinker with a creature bait, I might look to a blank with a bit more power. When I'm pitching I normally use an 845 or even a 7'6" flipping rod with braid.
Don't mean to confuse the issue, just my $.02 worth. Re: RX8 XMB 843 or 844

Most of the time it will be 3/8 some times 1/2 jigs only I use another rod for fliping and pitching plastics.
I really have it narrowed down to the two but I can not decide witch one. Maybe I will have to order both.LOL and decide when I have them in my hands. Re: RX8 XMB 843 or 844

Since you are planning to cut it down I would definitely get the 844, you are going to loose a little of the most powerful part of the blank and move the reel seat further up where it is less powerful. I have used that blank and it works great with 3/8 andn1/2 oz jigs, if you are working around heavy cove you will appreciate the extra power to get the fish out. Re: RX8 XMB 843 or 844

I built an XMB 783 as Texas Rig rod for Lake Guntersville. It does well with 1/4 oz T rigs and 3/8 jigs in the grass. In my opinion, it is not powerful enough for heavier weights, especially in the grass. I suspect the XMB 843 is similar only longer.
If you are fishing or pitching heavy cover, I would go with the XMB 844. My personal best largemouth at 8 1/2 lbs came on my XMB 783 last summer. Regards Bert Nagy Re: RX8 XMB 843 or 844

Thanks for all the fast replys.
I am finding it hard to decide be that I have never used any of these blanks and with the advice I am closed to deciding but I need to hold it in my hand to really decide so I went ahead and ordered both. Witch ever I use I am sure the other won't go to waste. Thanks again for all the help. Re: RX8 XMB 843 or 844
