I'm new at rod building and found a 10ft Honey colored Lamiglass Blank I like, but its 1 piece. Was thinking about cutting it into 2 pieces. I searched for videos on installing ferrules but found nothing. Is this an easy task or something I shouldn't be messing with? Probably should stay with the rod kits, but really didn't find what I was looking for. Re: Cutting a blank

Jake,
You are really better off either using the blank as a one piece or buy a new 2 piece rod. You can add joints to the rod, but often you are just building trouble into the rod. The honey colored Lamiglass blanks - I think - are really quite old. They may also be fiberglass which could be fine if that is what you want. But if it is one of the older fiberglass blanks, it is likely quite a bit more heavy than a new blank. Good luck Roger Re: Cutting a blank

Thanks Roger, I decided to get a rod kit from Mudhole. Ordering blanks is a tough decision. What would be a good size for catfish? also want to build a surf rod as well. Is there a site/Video or book to help with these decisions? Re: Cutting a blank

Depends mostly on what size catfish your going for and what species...
I personally have used 15-40's 7ft MH MF for my Blue Catfish open water rods and Channel/small flathead cover rods, but a buddy of mine used a 20/40 rod for most of the catfish rods he builds. I have some 30-80 6ft's that are very fast action with a strong butt section I picked up for the heavy cover flatheads that a good number of my buddies fish on the Susquehanna and Skuke. All fiberglass, mainly because I am rough on the rods so they last well and graphites in similar sizes are just out of my price range. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
