The closest I know of would be Pearsall's in Cardiff, Wales, but as far as I know they only supply silk thread and floss.

Most any polyester embroidery thread will work fine (but you may want to use color preserver on it). Here's one link for a company out your way:

Coats and Clark used to have a big operation in Scotland, but I don't know if they still do. Here in the States I use C&C Trilobal polyester, 40 wt. Never had to use any CP.

Take a look at Hopkins and Holloway. They maintain a nice inventory of rod whipping thread and other components dedicated to rodbuilding.
