Lamiglas XMG50 Bass - Discontinued

Just wanted to give a heads up to everyone. After noticing that the XMG50 bass rods were removed from the lamiglas webpage, I made a call to them. The XMG bass blanks are going to be discontinued. They said they will continue to do the salmon and steelhead rods, but the bass line will be nomore!

UNBELIEVABLE....you find a high quality, reasonably priced , extremely useful blank...and then its gone

Go figure. First the Tri-Flex series I used for exclusively for tarpon, now the XMG series I used for occasionally for inshore. Not long ago, they whacked some really neat fly blanks as well. It is obvious the changes are to align their blank offering with finished rods, understandable but painful nonetheless.

The good news is that other manufacturers will fill the gap. The other good news is that a trip to High Point in February is even more necessary to find those replacements.

They have a few 7'0" models which do me no good at all. I used the 7'8" and 8'0" models to allow proper reach around the boat hull/motors and for better directional control of the poon. ALL of the Texaliums are toast.

A little mouse told me that Billy Vivona was busy at work in his laboratory designing new Seeker Hercules models to compensate for the loss of the longer Tri-Flex blanks. Who knows, he might even be willing to drag some to the ICRBE for "show and tell".

I suspect with the new blank technology, they will be offering new series to replace HMG50 and others.

The 2011 catalog lists several triflex models. The surf model goes up to 10' 6".

Hopefully if they bring out something new, it will be just as nice as the current offering or nicer and remain somewhere close to that price point! For the price they sure are hard to beat for certain applications.

That's terrible news. I have several guys, including myself that absolutely love the LMB 864 for fishing jigs. Maybe I can find a few to stash away for a rainy day.

Back in April at the get together at Lamiglas, Josh stated they were working on using a new product that would probably be out in 2011. this could be some of those that are being replace. Remember in any business you can not get stagnate with any product, you always have improvements to make or someone is going to bypass you. Most improvements are for the better. As for costs, every thing has endured a price increase. For us in WA. gas and electricity is out of sight. This is a hidden cost all manufactures have to incorporate into a product cost.

i GOT THE FOLLOWING FROM ANOTHER SITE:

Get them while you can. Looks like the International import blanks are toast, and some or all of the XMG 50 blanks for bass. The the top end XMG 50 bass blanks are being upgraded to a new material. I've seen 3 models of the XMG 50 bass blanks listed already, the LMB 843, 845 and the 864.
