While fishing early this spring my fishing partner left his rod laying over the heater in my driftboat. It wasn't touching the heater but when he picked it up the tip was like a piece of cooked spagetti, really limber. We thought ruined rod but yesterday he brought it over to cut off the four inches from the tip and install a new tip. Just for the heck of it I heated the tip with a heat gun until it got back to the state it was in in the boat and straightened the tip. After it cooled it was straight as an arrow. My question is was any damage done structurally or will it return to it's original state. All seems well with the arc of the curve, meaning no curve, flat spot and curve again. Any input will be appreciated.
Thank you, Larry Re: bent rod

At some point, it will fail. The resins used in rod construction aren't like hot melt cement. Once they soften, they will not retain their original state.

But, that may not happen for a hundred years. Enjoy it until it or if it does break.

If he takes a good fish on it, it'll happen pretty soon.
