I've been wondering, is there a way to compare fly blanks to spinning/casting blanks? Ie. What wt fly blank compares to a med action spinning/casting? Re: Fly/spinning/casting blanks

A medium, 4 power, 8 to 12 lb line steelhead rods are in the 12 wt fly rod range. Re: Fly/spinning/casting blanks

A blank is a blank, I'd just compare the CCS numbers. Thanks, Chad Huderle Huderle Custom Rods Prior Lake, MN Re: Fly/spinning/casting blanks

The old method, which is really very general in nature since there are no standards for fly rods, is to compare casting weights by making the fly line rating the numerator and 16 the denominator. So a 4-weight fly rod would supposedly cast a 1/4 ounce lure very well. The problem is that there no standard for what constitutes a 4-weight fly rod. So again, this is a very general and loose method but it might at least give you somewhere to start lacking something like the CCS measurements.
