A damaged blank that had been shipped to me in error has been replaced, but they haven't sent UPS to pick up the old blank. I plan to call the company this week to remind that the blank is still here, and was wondering if they still want it back if I should offer to buy the damaged blank at a "salvage price?"

The blank when trimmed past the visable damage will be around 3+ inches shorter than original length. This would probably make it about a 6'6" (or so) MF with a 4.5 tip instead of a 6'10" MLXF with a 4.0 tip (assuming the damage isn't worse than it appears.) I could use it as an "r&d blank" to either build it as is, or maybe extend it to 7'6" to make it an XF action again.

The original cost of the blank was $98 + shipping (MSRP of $130) and assuming no warranty, what is a fair price to pay for this blank?

I also have received a blank that was damaged (beyond any useful purpose) in shipment. I was told that a new blank was being shipped (it was) and that the broken blank was going to be picked up for return from my house (it never was). I kept the broken blank on my front porch, in a tube, with the return info, for a week. The blank was never picked up. That was more than a year ago and I still have the two broken pieces. No one ever contacted me about it.
I would say keep your damaged blank handy for return for a short time, and if it is never picked up or you never hear from any one - it's yours!

A couple of times, I got blanks that were either defective or damaged in transit. I got replacements for all of them, but not once did the vendor ask for the damaged blank back (once, they did ask for a photo of a blank that broke during shipment). And this has come in handy, as scrap blanks are handy to have around for a variety of reasons. It wouldn't surprise me if a vendor doesn't bother asking for a return -- there's not really a whole lot they can do with it commercially.

UPS came today for the bad blank. The blank company maybe waited to issue the pick up ticket until they received notification that the replacement blank had been delivered.
