Downrigger spiral wrap

Venturing into a downrigger rod build (RDR86MH) -- I've been using the single 90deg "bumper" wrap with success on most baitcasters, but wondered if a Forhan or other type of extended transitional wrap might be better suited for these limber, slower-actioned downrigger rods. Thanks for any recommendations, much appreciated!

Cannot imagine how they would be \"better\" but I am sure they will work just as well. I have used the Simple Spiral on plenty of fast and slow action rods and it works well on either type. LIkewise I have used the Revolver or what us old timers call the \"Roberts\" wrap on both fast and slow action rods and it also works well.

Thanks Peter, you're probably right -- I think I have a larger bend envisioned in the butt-end of the rod than will exist in reality!

The greater the flex in the butt section, the straight your line path will be through the Simple Spiral wrap. Just remember to use a larger ring for the bumper guide and/or position it per the instructions at 100 to 110 degrees.

Mike, I used revolver wraps on all four of my 8'6" mod-action Lamiglas DR rods, they perform great.

Tom,
I think any of the spiral wraps will perform great. I think that it's more personal preference. I just prefer the simplicity of the "Simple or Bumper" method.

Go with the spiral for sure on rigger rods. Your customer will throw away the rest of his standard rigger rods and order more LOL. Simple has worked great for me, never messed with any of the others, but sure they are just as effective. There are absolutely no cons to using a spiral rod for any trolling application, only pros.
