Is there a shop / company where you can send the bottom section of a 2 pc fly rod and have it matched with a similar top section. I have a butt section of a 9', 5 wt but I am not sure who the maker was. I had an old Sage Discovery top section that fit it perfectly but it got shattered this summer. I currently have an old 4 wt top gerry-rigged a little at the ferrule to fit it. It fishes ok but not anything like before. Sage told me they could not replace the top since I was not the original owner. I can accept that. I have about 20 hours of custom work in that butt section and would like to get some newer lipstick for this pig this winter. Any ideas? Thanks

Most companies are too busy to try and mis-match somebody else's butt section with one of their tip sections. I doubt you're going to find anyone willing to spend time on that.

If you could figure out who made that butt section, it might be possible for the maker to fit a new tip to it, or even make something that was out of production. Otherwise you're stuck trying to match something yourself.

Hey Steve, have you thought about making your own tip by using an old tip with the right taper and making a new ferrule out of a scrap piece of fiberglass rod. This would give you the correct fit and the action you desire.
