Fixing Flex Coat Lite Issues?

Hi, all. First, thanks to all for the collective wisdom on this site that has me most of the way through building my first rod. Grips, Real Seat, and guide underwrapping all went smoothly. I applied flex coat lite to the underwraps last night, and mostly they look great.
However, there are some small imperfections that look like the finish hung-up on something. Perhaps a piece of fuzz or an errant metalic flake (gudebrond metalic Size D thread) protruded above the level of the guide wrap, and thus the finish sealed around it, or was thin over the top of it. Can I sand those away and apply a second coat? Do you normally sand between coats of thread finish? And, is there anything that I could have done to prevent this in the first place? Thanks, -Greg. You can sand them off just DONT sand too far and hit the thread, BEST thing to do is shave them off with a razor blade and DONT cut the thread, then re-coat.

What DR said exactly, and I always have to apply 2 coats of lite finish to get good coverage no matter what thread I use. So ,,,,you really don't have much of a problem. Just trim the nubs and apply another coat.. J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Re: Fixing Flex Coat Lite Issues?

What you can do is after you wrap a guide, take a cigarette lighter and -- keeping it away from the thread so as not to burn it -- pass it under the wrap to burn away any fuzzies before finish is applied. Bill - willierods.com Re: Fixing Flex Coat Lite Issues?

A tip of what I do, use a fingernail clipper to trim any nubs then add a second coat of finish Re: Fixing Flex Coat Lite Issues?

I'll second the cuticle cutters, just get your hands on a real good pair, I have a pair of the Revlon ones, maybe 18 bucks if I remember right. Money well spent. Re: Fixing Flex Coat Lite Issues?

Thanks everybody. I followed the knife/cuticle cutter advice and the second coat looks great. Also, since I hadn't done the overwraps yet, I carefully inspected those before finishing and flashed any high spots with a lighter, and I didn't get any of those high spots on the first coat of finish. So, thanks again to all. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
