On my last spinning rod, I used a Perma Gloss finish. Maybe I applied too may coats (#8) and the results is a bad finish (there's some leveling problems). Can I smooth with scotch brite and then apply again a coat of PG or flex coat lite formula rod finish?
Thanks Marco Re: Perma Gloss leveling problems

I think if you do some searching, I think you will find that you will not get a really smooth finish with PermaGloss. Re: Perma Gloss leveling problems

PermaGloss does not give an epoxy type appearance. It cures to an "eggshell" finish.

It would be easier to use two coats of a thin epoxy finish. Bill - willierods.com Re: Perma Gloss leveling problems

Marco if you intend to put a two part epoxy on top of Perma Gloss please wait at least three or four days to insure all the solvent phase has left the Perma Gloss. Long term outgassing of Perma Gloss is one of the things that occurs as the prodcut fully cures. If not you will experience tiny bubbles in the epoxy finish. Re: Perma Gloss leveling problems

I use PG a lot because I like the hard, light, clear finish. But I always seems to get a finish that is a bit wavy, sort of like brush strokes. As to number of coats, and maybe this has to do with how thinly I apply it, I routinely use 5 or 6 coats to get a complete finish. If I want a heavier glassy finish, I use epoxy. But on light blanks where I want maximum performance, I use PG. Re: Perma Gloss leveling problems

I always find that in cooler temps it works better. The cooler the better, it takes longer to set up and tends to flow a lot better. That is another reason I keep in in the refrigerator -- not the freezer.
Also if you can keep the temps of the finishing room lower, just when using it. Bill - willierods.com Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/27/2009 02:51PM by bill boettcher. Re: Perma Gloss leveling problems

Thanks a lot Bill, I'll wait the fully cure.
