When blank color becomes the priority, the customer has to understand that his options become severely limited. He just went from a possible 200 blank possibilities, down to perhaps just 1 or 2.

Your only other option is to buy a blank and paint it.

Coming from a time when rod blanks were mostly grey or black only, we got our colors from our thread wraps or handle colors. The blank was chosen based on which one would perform the specific task in the best possible manner.

Ya I explained that to him and he wanted me to see if I could find something, of course he isnt willing to pay for a high end blank that similar to the color combo's Croix has available. I am fairly sure I will be able to move him to a Matte blank as that is what I built his last with but I think he just wants me to see if there is anything available.

Lamiglass makes two reds: translucent and candy apple, special order cost is about $14 bucks I think?

Mike,

Use the search function (in the red bar above) with the parameters Blank Painting or Coloring, and specify All Dates. You will find extensive reading on the subject with several methods that have been successful for various builders, including myself. I build exclusively for children, and have painted many blanks that last a looong time. Click on my name and email me if you have specific questions.

Get any blank you want.....scuff the finish with 600 grit sandpaper, Spray with Krylon Fusion (available at Wal-Mart or Ace Hardware) (they have two shades of red) then two coats of Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane (get the clear gloss type) (also available at Wal-Mart or Ace hardware) allow a day to dry.....and you are good to go....Hope this helps...
