Thread ramp question

I played around with a thread ramp a little this weekend and it turned out great until I got to the finish. How do you all keep the finish up on the ramp? the first coat did fine with it soaking into the thread of course but after that it keeps running down the ramp and building up to much at the bottom of it. I thought about propping the blank up on one end but I figured it would run down the other end then. Any help would be appreciated.

I would let the finish sit for a little bit and as it starts to thicken, then apply it. Once on the ramp, flame it and it will smooth out and stay put.

David I do as Kevin does. I coat all the guides and decals first. That gives the finish enough time to set up a little before applying to the ramp. Works every time.

I raise the front rod support considerably, and use 1-2 additional, but lighter coats.

Raise the tip while it's turning in the dryer

Would a High build finish work better for this? You all saying let it thicken up makes me wonder. I didn't try that.
