Hey guys..most of ya'll have seen my posts from time to time...I usually build saltwater rods and very few freshwater rods...a buddy of mine knows all this and still wants me to build him a fly rod for light/med saltwater...I am convinced I can build a good one given the opportunitiy...just looking for a place to start...are the guides spaced differently than doing the normal staic test?? and the other thing I was curious about was sizing the guides to get optimum casting distance...what guides should be used for light/med saltwater??? what line weight blank????. any suggestions on finding info needed to complete this build?
Thanks, Dave Re: new to fly rods

What does your buddy want to use? Line , how long, how many pieces. What fish, lures. Bill - willierods.com Re: new to fly rods

Fly rods are built just like any other rod. Guides are sized the same way - use the smallest and lightest guides that will still pass the line and any required connections. There will be a line to leader knot, loop, splice, etc. that will have to be accommodated. Make sure your size choice will handle this.
You really need to find out what he's going to be fishing for. "Light/medium" saltwater can encompass a pretty wide range of species and sizes. It's hard to recommend something without a little more information. ............ Re: new to fly rods

The American Tackle Ti guides are a good choice for salt. Unless he wants to go Fuji $$$ Bill - willierods.com Re: new to fly rods

David...
A Rainshadow 9' 9 weight RX8+ would be my choice based on the info given. Nothing less than a 9 wt though. Just my .02 Paul Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
