Hello everyone. Last week I wrapped guides back on a section of rod I replaced after it was broken. I used regular Flex Coat for finish on the wraps. I have had excellent results since I started with Flex Coat, and learned to mix at least 2 cc's of resin and hardener each, measure very carefully, use slightly warmed components and mix carefully and very completely before applying finish. I also set aside the leftover finish, and use that to determine if the finish on the rod is completely hard. The day after applying finish, the left over material was still quite sticky, but what was on the rod was glassy and hard. What's going on??? Thank you all. Re: New-to-me thread finsih experience

I've had the same thing happen with flex coat lite and threadmaster lite. I figured what was left over in the mixing cup was just a "thick block" and just took longer to cure fully than the lite application that goes on the wraps?????? Re: New-to-me thread finsih experience

I would say that the finish left over is thicker sitting in the cup and therefor not hardened all the way through. If you let it set for a while, it will harden. But then again, whats on the rod is whats important. I wouldnt worry about it in less the results were reversed. Re: New-to-me thread finsih experience

Thicker shouldn't matter-should cure at same rate as what is on the rod. As said-the reverse would be worse. Re: New-to-me thread finsih experience

Finish in a cup should harden FASTER not slower.
My guess and it's only a guess.....you did more mixing with the product during application of it on the rod, the applied finish got "moved around" and mixed better than what was in the cup. I'd stir a little more next time if it were me. I think you got lucky if this is the case? Again, it's a guess. DR Re: New-to-me thread finsih experience

Did you leave your light on over the rod as it turned and placed the cup off to the side? I had a similar experience this morning. I left the second coat on the dryer overnight with the light left close to were I finished up: the butt wrap. The but wrap was totally dry so I grabbed the rod and left VERY slight finger prints on the second guide wrap from the butt. The guides were not exposed to the slight increase in heat from the light near the butt wrap. The cup was also ever so slightly tacky as well.
