My friend was given a couple of old rods from a young man whose grandfather is in poor health. One was a St. Croix, and the other looks old, but still in ok shape.... I was thinking of doing a refurb just for a wall ornament???
I was hoping someone could give me a little background on the rod...... It is a white glass blank, the rod come in two pieces at the foregrip/reelseat connection...... Stainless steel with wood handles (I think Oak)..... The rod has much of the lettering worn off, but what I can read is: ????/STEEL PRODUCTS, INC. Waterloo Indiana, Made in USA... I was thinking about re-wrapping the 4 guides with new stainless, and keeping the original colors, and then sanding and finishing the wood handle.... It might make a nice wall decoration?? If it is not worth the time, I woudl also like that feedback.... Thanks! Re: What is this rod???

OK ... I'm game.
Here's my opinion. You said you are contemplating refinishing the rod as a "wall decoration". In that case, who cares how old it is, who made it, if it has cash value, etc. The ONLY criteria to consider should be the aesthetics ... is it pretty OR can you make it pretty? So ... decide if it would look sharp on that empty wall. If so, break out the paint, thread and sandpaper and get with the program. Time is wasting and your wall is lonely. It's not a treasure, at least not in monetary terms. Old boat rods like that are common. They do make nice wall decorations and some fix them up and put them back into service. Hardly any are sold for a fortune, let alone more than a few dollars.
