OK gurus-I've gotten 15 pages into search results for "spiral wrap" and still have not come to an answer to a simple question. Which "method" of spiral wrapping should be employed to keep highly damaging wire line COMPLETELY off the blank under all load conditions. Keep in mind this rod will never be cast. The beast in question is a 701L gator glass being set up for wire lining mag dipseys (thanks Tony Childs!) with HB series SiN2 fuji guides. I have never built a spiral wrap before, but I want to start with this project. It seems like a lot of the tweaking work is taken out of the picture when you don't have to worry about casting, but then added back in tenfold when you consider that wire cannot...even when reeling slack...abrade against the blank.
I may be wrong (read uneducated), but it seems a simple spiral is out of the running. Suggestions on where to start? Thanks. Re: Wire Trolling Spiral Wrap

The line won't rub the blank with a Simple Spiral and Bumper guide.

With the guides you are using, just keep the spacing under 8", even as little as 6 during your transition and you will be fine. The height of the guides will help you out for sure. Just be sure to really static test it. Re: Wire Trolling Spiral Wrap

So as Tom stated with the use of the bumper guide, am I understanding correctly that the bumper guide does NOT play a role in guide loads? If so, can I get away with a much lighter guide in this position? From my playing around, it appears the bumper position receives a lot of pressure "into" the blank.
