If I was to spin a blank at 60 rpm instead of the 4 or 9 rpm will the finish on the guides still self level? Re: Drying rpm

Allen,
Not very well. 60 rpm is a great rpm to apply finish. But epoxy will self level much better if the actual long term drying is done at a much slower rate like 6,10,12, or 15 rpm. Take care Roger p.s. To test, simply take a dowel stick and put a few wraps on the dowel. Apply the finish of your choice at 60 rpm and then let it dry at 60 rpm and inspect your results. If the results are fine on the dowel, go ahead and use it on a blank. Take care Roger Re: Drying rpm

I put my finish on with a fairly high speed. Then when all is covered, I shut the dryer off. Set for slower speed. hand turn and wipe off any excess. Then turn back on at slower speed. Also baby site for a while to check for bubbles and boo boo;s. When I see any, I use a drinking straw and blow on them. They come right out. Guess I got hot breath. Must be that adult beverage ?? RPM's that high can cause ridges or humps in the epoxy due to centrifugal force. Re: Drying rpm

I build all my individual dryers with 5rpm and never had a problem. Re: Drying rpm

I've done 3 RPM to 40rpm and never have had problems with ridges/humps. The faster speeds DO increase the tendency for the finish to creep up the legs however. Re: Drying rpm

I use an 18 rpm dryer and apply finish on it as well. I find for my work, with the rod making a revolution every 3.3 seconds, it works well for me. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
