Dave;
When the weather is that cold, does it affect the characteristics of the blanks material enough to alter your results?

You do know there are places on this earth that don't get below 60 above zero, right?

Steve
I was only out there for a few minutes.
I don't think I was out long enough for the blank to cool down that much.
The fly line didn't even start to stiffen up.

Dave

Heat stroke my buttocks. Better than freezing to death.
My wife and I live in S. Georgia and are planning a move to either the Keys, Puerto Rico or Costa Rica. Warm all the time and beautiful fishing year round. You might want to look into something like that.

Was that Celcius or was it Farenheit. I know it was cold either way. Good thing it was a fly rod instead of a lure with a minnow. The minnow would have turned into a POPscile pretty fast

It was -27 F when I got to work at 0700 here in MN. I brought along a rod I recently finished - a 7' cranking rod with all 3.5 mm on top. I just wanted to take a few shots across the parking lot with it but I lack the stones. My coworker just went outside with a cup of hot water and threw it in the air - only a few drops hit the ground - the water turned to vapor.

Update - I had a meeting at our church last night and snuck into the sanctuary to test cast my micro crank rod. I sidearmed it and bounced the casting plug off the opposite wall about 15' up from the floor. My best guess, with that trajectory, it would have been about an 80 yard cast outside.

Dave - here's our forecast for tonight...

Tonight
Clear. Lows around 30 below. Northwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Wind chill readings 45 below to 55 below zero.
