Has anyone used PC-11 Marine Epoxy?? It's a very thick 2 part paste) I'm in a bind with some trolling rods that I have to have out this week and I let myself run out of Ultimate Gel and my order won't get here in time. I picked up some PC-11 and would like some feedback.

It's similar to Rod Bond or Ultimate Gel but can be put on under water 30-40 min working time, off white when cured.

i use pc-11 to glue offshore blanks into the ferrules. some of the strongest stuff i've ever seen, but a pain in the butt to mix.

Mike, I have never used PC 11 but I have used an older product: PC 7. Once after a hurricane I was running down the ICW in Galveston and hit a board. It put 14 holes in the bottom of an aluminum boat. When I got home I patched the holes with the PC 7 and have not had a leak in that boat since then. It is supper strong stuff. So I imagine that the PC 11 would hold anything in place. Since that is a thick paste epoxy, it is harder to clean up but it should hold very well. I have used PC 7 on reel seats when out of regular epoxy and have never had one come loose on surf rods.

You won't like it and it's not appropriate for use on custom rods. Way too thick for use on rod assemblies - like stiff putty, not at all like RodBond or Ultimate Gel.

If you need something along those lines, look for the Kardol marine epoxy.

If you have some Do-It-Best hardware stores near you, they have some epoxies that look very similar in composition to RodBond that you may want to check out.

I'd look for something more along the lines of Devcon quick drying epoxy in the syringe type tubes. If not, maybe you have a custom golf shop or pro shop in your area, the epoxy that they use to bond golf club heads with would work great too.

I built my first two rods using Devcon 2 Ton epoxy from Wal-Mart. The 2 Ton has a advertised working time of 30 minutes but is really only about 20. I let mine set for about 5 minutes to let it start to thicken up a bit. This will keep it from trying to run all over the place while putting everything together. Just spin the rod 180 if you start to get sags while applying to large areas.

I would not use the 5 minute Devcon.
