I'm relatively new at this fellas' and I would like to make an attempt at making a rod handle that I use cork/wood combination rings.......any idea where I could go to get some instructional literature and name of same ?...Thanks.

About anything you can think of along these and other lines has been covered in RodMaker Magazine over the last 12 years. Check the back issue page at www.rodmakermagazine.com.

Now having said that if you want to go ahead without any background material you'll find a combination wood and cork grip not all that hard to make. However, cork cuts faster than wood so you must exercise care when sanding so that you don't scallop the cork areas. Block sanding is the way to go. Expoy or Titebond II or III are all suitable for glue up.

As Tom mention cork is softer than wood. After a lot of use cork will compress away from the wood. You might want to consider a Burl type cork.

Bob----thanks so much for the tip.....after thinking about it, that was the way I had just about decided to go....what is the best finish that you can apply to the the cork handles for protection ?

Tru-Oil is very popular and is made to withstand the outdoor environment.
