hey guys

could i ask a favour?

i am building up a MB783 IMX for a mate here in australia as a general purpose BC to be matched to an Alphas R edition

what i need help with is the guides

he wants titanium framed sics as his guides but im unsure of what models to use.

he needs the guides to pass a 60lb leader knot with ease so i was leaning towards an 8 or 7

he wants it as light at as possible and not a spiral wrap so could i get away with using all single foot fly guides TLSG or would i need some double foots for stripper and transition guides?

could you please recomend a layour of guides for this rod

Thanks

You can keep the tip lighter by sticking with single foot guides there. I'd use double foots for the heavier butt area guides just to provide a bit more durability during handling.

My thought would run towards something like, 16 - 10 and then 8's on out, as many as needed.

Now I'm only guessing on the 8's. I don't know his knot and how well he ties them. You're likely going to have to experiment to see what size is appropriate with his terminal tackle. You could always buy a set of hardloys or similar in all the different sizes and use those for testing purposes and then buy the more expensive SIC-Ti guides once you know for sure what size you need.

That reel is REALLY small so most likely you can start with a #12. However, definitely don't use smaller than a #8 and I am not 100% sure that a 60# leader knot will pass that ... but it definitely won't get through a #7.

Be sure to use a Forhan wrap on the TLSG guides, they will need it since he is using 60# leader.

BTW, you are probably going to be rebuilding this one. A 3 power rod with 60# leader makes my alarm bells go off.

8's pass 60lb leader fine

i have 8's on my 6-17lb spinning setup to throw exact same lures at exact same fish

the 60lb leader is used for abraison resistance

normally we have 15lb braid attached to that leader

we vary from spot to spot, using 20lb leader, 40lb and 60lb at the really nasty spots

Thanks mate

and i always use forhan wrap ;)
