Hey guys

about to build my first decent baitcasting rod, and well i wouldnt really know where to start to work out guide spacings.

im all good with spinning but not so for Baitcasters

the blank is a G Loomis MB783 IMX

so is there any specific way to work out general spacings before you tweak them using static tests?

Here is a link to the article on guide spacing from the library. There are also several other articles in the library that you may find beneficial

The spacing charts are fine to get started with. They will work fine. But in time you will want to learn how to space guides yourself so that you'll always be able to "do it on the fly" so to speak. It's not hard and you might even find it to be a lot of fun.

One thing to keep in mind is whether it will be a spiral wrap or guides on top. If it will be a spiral wrap you can use some of the very low guides like Alconite’s or LSG’s, if it will be built with the guides on top you really should use one of the taller single foot guides like the ALPS.
