I am going to be fishing for Barracuda, Tarpon, Permit, bonita, etc. in Baja, Mexico. I have been told that the species mentioned can run up to 25lb - 30lb and a 10wt. Fly rod is recommended.
I would like to get some suggestions from the rod builders here on what is the best 10wt. blank to build on. Please give me your recommendations. Thank you, John Anderson Re: 10wt. Fly Rod Blank recommendation

Would help if we knew your price point? Just visiting or longtime usage? Re: 10wt. Fly Rod Blank recommendation

Thank you for the response and very good questions, but I do not want a blank recommendation limited by price or how often it will be used. I want a recommendation on what blank would make the best fly rod for the purpose mentioned. Even if I never get to take a trip like this again I want to have the best equipment possible to help make this trip a memorable one.
I have lighter weight saltwater fly rods that I have built on a moderate fast action or fast action blank so I would say that I am looking for the same action for a 10wt. I will appreciate all recommendations. Thank you, John Anderson Re: 10wt. Fly Rod Blank recommendation

At least Anglers workshop has it: Beulah bluewater 10/11 blank.Comes with an extra top.I was in Mexico first time this year and brought with me three different 10 weights.Nothing could match this blank when it comes to practical use.Best blank I ever have used and really though blank. I am using a streamer express 400 grain line with it, if you are a better caster than me a 350 grain should even work s better. My biggest rooster gave in after 45 minuttes. I think the 30 ibs fish might have broken the other rods I have. If you turn ytour old grip, turn the handle as close to the original factory rod grip as possible, if you want to have an extra grip for lifting. Edited 2 time(s). Get your favorite rod out and buy a 10 wt in that blank. Lots of good blanks out there, everyone has their own best. Re: 10wt. Fly Rod Blank recommendation

Hello,
I just finished a 10wt for the same types of fish. Ended up going with St Croix's new SCV Saltwater series - the "Belize" blue colored ones. Built up into a very nice rod. Very powerful butt section, strong mid section, and a lighter tip for close-in work. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Brian Re: 10wt. Fly Rod Blank recommendation

CTS Affinity S is a nice salty blank....Like Spence mentioned, there are lots of good choices....
