Roller Guides vs. Windon leaders...grooves??

On a fishing forum I am on, people noticed grooves in their roller guide frames from their wind on leaders. I believe they were using the AFTCO Wind On roller guides, and when the fish was close to the boat and the leader in the guides, the sharks made some violent maneuvers and the roller guide frames got chewed up/grooved by the metal wind on leaders. They report the grooves are sharp enough to slice thru the mono lines.
Are there any fixes to this damage other than new frames? Can JB Weld or something similiar be used to fill in the grooves and dressed down as a quick fix instead of having to have all new guides wrapped? Are there any brands that are less prone to this? Or should they try to insert the wind on's into Dacron or HC braid to lessen the damage on the frames? How else can they avoid this problem? Thanks! Re: Roller Guides vs. Windon leaders...grooves??

No 2-pack metal filler will stand up to wire leaders...........especially under tension.
Will be highly likely to tear out on the first fish. Sad about that. DenisB Re: Roller Guides vs. Windon leaders...grooves??

JB Weld might be a temporary fix for line that only momentarily rubs the frame where the groove has occured. But long term I'd go for new frames. As Denis said, any long term contact will be won by the line.

Yeah, that looks like the only solution. The JB Weld is pretty tough stuff, but I don't know how it will adhere to the surface and hold up to the wind ons. Re: Roller Guides vs. Windon leaders...grooves??
