I have been molding my own butt caps instead of using the ugly black rubber or plastic ones. After gluing the handle, reel seat, and foregrip (if any) to the blank and before any guide or wrapping work I make a mold (cup fashion) around the handle butt with a course or two of narrow masking tape. I plug the drill hole with a small wad of paper about 1/2 inch down inside. Then I mix a small quainity of five minute apoxy with cork dust that I have saved from my sanding on grips. Pour down into the mold, let it cure, and sand down to desired shape. I have gotten good results with adding different pigment colors to the epoxy before pouring or leave it natural. The pigment is small tubes of various colors intended for gel coat coloring acquired from a marine supply store. The pigment does not dominate but gives a subtle color tint to compliment the rod. This makes a very tough butt cap and blends with whatever design you want. At least it eliminates the black butt caps that I think are pure ugly. Capt. Harold Re: My butt caps

Sounds like a great idea! I may try to make some and see how they turn out. Thanks for a great tip! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
