This is my first post and would like to thank all builders that contribute to this site. As a beginner, I have learned more by reading this site since July than my 2 years of "practice". A friend has asked me to build him a salmon rod that he will use only on charter boats. I would like recomendations on a blank that fills the following critera: 81/2 - 9 foot 2 piece, fast action (top 1/3 flexes and then heavy power to the butt), reel will be a Penn 340 loaded with 30 pound mono. Rod will be used primarly for live bait therefore needs a soft tip (I understand "soft" is difficult to determine). He wants cork grips (12-16 inch fore grip) and a rod that will stand out from the rest in the rack. My thought would be of a color other than brown, white, or black. I remember reading about a rod that changes color in the sunlight but I don't think they are available in 2 piece. This will be my first "heavy" rod and am not sure if glass or a combination is best. Thanks to all. Re: Beginners Rod Recomendation ?

Check out Lamiglas For a fiberglass blank the MB1083M 2 pc might fit the bill. It is anice Honey color blank which gives you the base for numerous color combinations. It is not a fast action, but a nice blank Bill Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
