Now what?

I didn't have access to winding checks when I put the epoxy over my thread work and got carried away. I used the epoxy to go part way up on the cork forgrip where the winding checks should have gone and I think they look nice except they are clear. I don't know if I should leave it the way it is or try to paint them but don't know if that would work? Or maybe wrap thread on them only I've never tried wrapping thread on any surface except flat.

Has anyone else faced this issue? If so, what did you do? Functionally it is good to go.

Thanks ahead of time.

Darby

Hi Darby
I paint them black and put flexcoat over them.

Darby, I wrap thread quite often on ramps, start at the bottom and wrap up the ramp. When doing ramps go slow and maybe a little less tension. You can paint it also and just put another coat of finish on.

If you live near a craft store like Michael's buy a bottle of Testor's model airplane paint, let it sit for a while then remove most of the solvent. Mix a small batch of epoxy rod finish and with a tooth pick add a small amount of Testor's pigment to the finish and apply over the area where the winding check goes. That is basically what I am doing now in place of winding checks. Sometimes I will build a thread ramp and then use the colored epoxy and sometimes I will just use epoxy to build the ramp. Either way will work.

If you think it looks nice, why are you asking for opinions from people who can't see what you did, especially when when say that funcionally the rod is good? If you are building this for sale to the highest bidder/general public, if you like how it looks, leave it alone. If you don't, fix it. If you are building it for an actual customer, ask the customer.
